To use the Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® (HFL) system, you must make sure your mobile phone is compatible. It must be Bluetooth enabled and feature the HandsFree Profile. Click onFind a Phone to identify compatible mobile phones and service providers.
The first step to using the HFL system is to pair it with a compatible phone. The pairing procedure can only occur when the vehicle is stationary, so models with an automatic transmission must be in PARK, while models equipped with a manual transmission should be in neutral with the parking brake on. Once the transmission is properly selected turn the ignition to the “On” position.
Next, to make sure you are heard clearly by the vehicle, direct the climate control system vents away from the microphone situated in the ceiling and see that other noises in the car are eliminated. Then locate the HFL Talk button – found on the left side of the steering wheel. Press and release the button, and after the beep say, “Phone Setup.” The words, “Phone Setup” will appear in the Multi-Information Display. The system will then prompt you with the commands that are available at this point. Press and release the HFL Talk button and say “Pair.”
The system then responds with a safety prompt, advising you that the vehicle must be stopped before proceeding. After the prompt, press and release the HFL Talk button again and say a four-digit security code of your choosing. The system will repeat the code to confirm it.
Press and release the HFL Talk button, and after the beep, say “Yes.” HFL will now be in discovery mode, and your vehicle will search for the Bluetooth® signal from your phone to continue the pairing process.
Each phone will have a unique pairing sequence, so please see your phone’s operating manual for specific directions on how to pair your phone. You may also refer to the Find a Phone section of this site for information on how to pair your phone to the system.
Once your phone finds the HFL system, the phone will prompt you to enter your four-digit security code using the phone’s keypad. The system will then prompt you to assign a name to the phone. Press and release the HFL Talk button, and after the beep, say the name. Once this procedure is complete, your phone will be paired to your Acura’s HFL system.
You can repeat this procedure for up to six phones for multiple drivers. However, only one phone at a time can be used with the system.
Once you’ve completed the pairing procedure, the system will return to the main menu. Press and release the HFL Back button to deactivate HFL. The navigation system will now prompt you to set up a data connection with AcuraLink™. If you choose to do this, and your phone has a compatible data plan, your Acura can use your mobile phone to send diagnostic information to Acura. |
